Although Reiki is as safe as it can be, there are times when it is wise not to use it or take extra precautions by informing your clients of the possibilies:
Pregnanies
Personally I do not like to treat women who are in the early stages of being pregnant.
When something would go wrong, it would NOT be because of Reiki, but I can immagine that the mother to be, would be looking for a reason why the pregnancy went wrong or even worse: looking for someone to blame.
I can fully understand where that is coming from, but you don’t want to be cought in a situation like that.
Diabetes
Reiki can change the sugar level, so if you are going to treat someone with diabetes make sure they have their blood sugar levelchecked on a regular basis
Pacemaker
Because Reiki is energy I personally don’t use it on people who have a pacemaker. Better to be save then sorry !
Other
Be aware that Reiki can reduce pain and symptoms.
If you are going to a doctor this may hinder accuracy in their diagnosis.
Some suggest not to use Reiki if someone is under anaesthetic. Reiki can clear chemicals from the body, so it could reduce the effect of the anaesthetic. But there are hospitals where Reiki Practitioners work with operating teams, to help reduce shock and trauma, and if the anaesthetist is aware of what is going on, he or she can make the required adjustments
Everything else comes down to use your common sense.
Reiki is not a miracle cure, but if used wisely it can be of positive assistance in most situations
